Challenges in training qualified labor
Challenges in training qualified labor
Continuing an innovative project of training qualified IT workforce for the job market, Sphere IT announces the inauguration of IESKO – Shirley Klebis de Oliveira Educational Institute.
Investment in employee selection and training brings good returns to companies, often defining their degree of success. It is not enough to master the technology, to have the best prices, products or services. Material resources can be acquired and improved, but what really sets businesses apart is people. How to prepare them for the new functions that the market presents? How to enable them? Certify them? What challenges must be overcome?
The difficulty in training qualified professionals is associated, among other factors, with failures in regular education, which, as a rule, is not focused on the job market. In addition, according to 2019 IBGE data, 52.6% of Brazilians aged 25 do not even complete basic education, revealing the sad situation of education in general. The solution, in the professional sphere, inevitably passes through qualification. In the IT sector, the shortage of manpower refers mainly to functions with degrees of expertise, such as mobile development, platform programming, cloud computing, data analytics, information management, Big Data, data science, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, to name a few. The situation is subject to correction, faced with challenges created by the new scenario that requires, in addition to proactive attitudes, special attention to some factors: (1) Corporate culture codes – are the values and ethical principles that guide the business and with which employees must be aligned – the so-called cultural fit. It is important for professionals to understand these values and be attracted by the purpose of the business, as, identified with them, the greater will be the feeling of belonging and engagement. (2) Digitization of the economy and specialization – The digitization of the economy has high impacts on competitiveness and requires a good level of qualification. Digital processes are related to evolution, technology, connectivity and speed, but do not dispense with human competence. Businesses closely linked to the digital economy - technology, media, telecommunications, banking and manufacturing - are the most affected. (3) Valuing new skills – new market needs call for new skills (hard and soft skills). Among them, leadership, emotional intelligence, communication, credibility, creativity, innovation.
In addition to technical training, IT needs other requirements. One of them is the willingness for continuous learning. This means not just enjoying technology, but enjoying learning more, as in this industry, everything changes continuously. Another is knowing how to work as a team with generosity. The sense of team is part of IT and being willing to share knowledge generates a good reputation for the professional and competitiveness for the company. Finally, be an expert, but not only. No matter what the expertise, it takes repertoire. It is recommended to know more about related areas as well as having good general knowledge.
These are some of the questions that motivated Sphere IT to create the IESKO – Shirley Klebis de Oliveira Educational Institute -, a non-profit institution with the exclusive purpose of training IT manpower. Sphere IT's enthusiasm for such an important project does not eliminate its awareness of the challenges ahead. It is necessary, on the part of companies, to remember that, among the risks of lack of qualification, are vulnerability, drop in productivity due to delay in resolutions, financial losses, possible non-compliance with legislation. On the part of the apprentices, understand that knowledge, training and certifications attest and ratify competences. The choice for a specialization leads to a technology, but also covers contents that enable full professional development. The achievement requires willingness and dedication on the part of everyone, however, it is a worthwhile effort to integrate initiatives that offer opportunities and leverage the sector from better performances.
